A chef in Falkenberg has explained how the lion's mane jellyfish can be prepared for eating, according to Sveriges Radio. The report comes as unusually large numbers of the species are being recorded along Sweden's west coast.

Sveriges Radio also spoke to a person named Christin who has eaten the jellyfish, describing the taste as similar to chips.

Separate reporting indicates the jellyfish are appearing in exceptional quantities this year. FishEco described the creatures as invading the Swedish west coast, while Lysekilsposten called it an extreme year for the lion's mane jellyfish.

The marine centre Havets Hus is now displaying the species, according to Lysekilsposten. Bohusläningen reported a busy period at the facility, noting both long-distance visitors and the unusual jellyfish following the centre director's first year in the role.

The lion's mane jellyfish is known for its large size and stinging tentacles, though the source material does not detail the specific preparation method the Falkenberg chef recommends, nor does it give a full recipe.

What to watch next: whether the high numbers of lion's mane jellyfish persist along the west coast and whether Havets Hus extends its display of the species.
