Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Le Monde.fr reported on Thursday. The French outlet did not disclose what the two sides discussed or where the meeting took place.
The conversation comes as Washington says Russia and Ukraine will hold what it describes as "working negotiations" in Abu Dhabi on 10 and 11 November, according to franceinfo. Euronews reported that Zelensky's exchanges with the American emissaries took place before further meetings are due to be held.
The reporting points to a diplomatic track running alongside the war, with US officials acting as intermediaries between Kyiv and Moscow. Le Monde.fr's live coverage and other French outlets carried the Zelensky meeting as their lead item on Thursday morning.
Details remain thin: neither the substance of the Zelensky-Witkoff-Kushner discussion nor the composition of the delegations expected in the Emirati capital has been made public in the material available.
What to watch next is whether the Abu Dhabi sessions go ahead on the announced dates and whether they produce any joint statement or further high-level contacts.
