Max Verstappen won the Formula 1 sprint race at the Singapore Grand Prix on Saturday, according to L'Équipe. The race at the Marina Bay circuit was held in wet conditions, and the Dutch driver finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton. George Russell made a mistake during the event, the French outlet reported.

The start of the sprint had been pushed back by 30 minutes, Ouest-France reported. Eurosport and Motorsport.com both carried live coverage of the session, with Motorsport.com noting that timing for the race was available in real time. Orange's sports coverage said the sprint was scheduled to begin at 11:00.

The sprint format puts drivers on track at Marina Bay before the main Singapore Grand Prix, and rain added a further variable to a street circuit that already leaves little margin for error. L'Équipe's account places Verstappen at the front in the wet and points to Russell's error as one of the defining moments of the race, while Hamilton came home in second.

Full classification and any post-session penalties had not been detailed in the material available at the time of writing. The main Singapore Grand Prix remains the next point on the weekend schedule, and attention will now turn to whether the wet weather seen in the sprint carries over into the longer race.
