Max Verstappen won the Formula 1 sprint race at the Singapore Grand Prix on Saturday, finishing ahead of both Ferrari drivers, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport and la Repubblica.
The race was shaped by a collision between the two McLaren cars. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Kimi Antonelli capitalised on that incident to finish fourth, a result the Italian outlet said allowed him to extend his lead further.
Autosprint and Sky Sport both carried live coverage of qualifying, which was scheduled for later the same day at the Marina Bay circuit.
The sprint result adds another chapter to the season's title fight. La Gazzetta dello Sport framed the outcome around Antonelli's gain rather than Verstappen's win, noting the young driver "godes" — enjoyed the benefit — of the McLarens taking each other out of contention. Il Fatto Quotidiano published the full sprint classification and the updated standings, confirming Verstappen as the winner.
Attention now turns to qualifying, with Autosprint and Sky Sport both running live updates as the grid for Sunday's grand prix was decided.
