Sweden's women's national team defeated Lithuania 10-0 at the National Arena in Solna on Tuesday, sealing a 15-0 aggregate victory in their World Cup playoff tie and a place in December's playoff final, according to SVT Nyheter.

The result followed a 5-0 win in the first leg away in Lithuania, which had already put Sweden firmly in control of the matchup before Tuesday's second leg.

By half-time in Solna the score stood at 6-0, with five different players having found the net. The final margin reached double figures, and Stina Blackstenius, Felicia Schröder and Amanda Ilestedt each finished the match with two goals, SVT Nyheter reported.

Why it matters

The win moves Sweden one step from a major tournament, with the playoff final scheduled for December. The two-legged tie was effectively decided by the first match, but the second leg showed a Swedish side converting its advantage rather than easing off, a point head coach Bella Andersson highlighted afterwards.

Andersson described the display as a mature and professional performance from a relatively inexperienced squad. She told SVT that teams can easily relax after taking a 5-0 lead in the opening leg, but said her players stayed disciplined and precise throughout.

For a group still building experience at international level, the manner of the win — spread across multiple scorers rather than reliant on one player — was presented as a meaningful step.

Blackstenius: goals built confidence across the squad

Blackstenius, who was given a starting role, told SVT Sport that scoring in a variety of ways carried weight for the team, noting it was something the squad had discussed. She said the result was good for the whole group's confidence.

Asked whether the lopsided scoreline felt excessive, Andersson said players simply want to keep scoring, while acknowledging the match would have been a difficult one for Lithuania.

SVT Nyheter reported that the first leg had left Sweden with one foot in the playoff final, and Tuesday's performance removed any remaining doubt. The 15-0 combined scoreline across the two matches reflects the gap between the sides over the tie.

What to watch

Sweden now turns to December's playoff final, where a place at the World Cup will be at stake. The identity of the opponent and the scheduling details were not confirmed in the reporting.
