Russian bombardment killed 18 people in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday, according to Le Monde.fr. The French outlet reported that the deaths came in a village in the area, a detail also carried by Le Figaro and 20 Minutes.
Zelensky said the strikes destroyed "all hope of progress towards peace," Le Dauphiné Libéré reported. Le Monde.fr did not give further details on the weapons used or the exact time of the attack.
The reports emerged alongside warnings of a possible new large-scale Russian attack. L'Indépendant reported that Russia was preparing a major strike within 24 hours, citing six Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers and at least 30 missiles of types including Iskander, S-400, Zircon and Oniks. That claim has not been independently confirmed.
The Zaporizhzhia region has been a focus of fighting throughout the war. Monday's reported death toll is among the higher figures announced by Ukrainian officials in a single incident in recent months, though Le Monde.fr's account did not place it in a wider casualty sequence.
Watch for official updates from Ukrainian authorities on the confirmed toll and for any response from Moscow to the reported attack.
