Raphaël Glucksmann won the French left's primary election by a wide margin in the first round, according to Le Monde.fr. The vote was held on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Olivier Faure, a leading Socialist figure, responded to the result by saying it was up to everyone involved to build a shared sense of victory together, Le Monde.fr reported. His remark pointed toward the work of holding the left's different factions together after the ballot.

Reactions across the left varied. RTL reported that Faure credited Glucksmann with having been able to persuade voters, while Ségolène Royal called for a broad gathering of the left. Marine Tondelier, by contrast, described the outcome as a choice of withdrawal, according to RTL.

Elsewhere in the primary campaign, Jean-Luc Mélenchon argued for lowering the voting age to 16, BFM reported.

The scale of Glucksmann's win — decisive enough that no second round was needed — was also noted by Les Echos, which reported that he took the Socialist primary comfortably in the opening round.

The primary unfolded over the weekend of October 10 and 11, a period Le Monde.fr covered in its roundup of the weekend's news.

Attention now turns to whether the left's competing figures can translate Sunday's result into a united front, and how Glucksmann's camp responds to the criticism from within its own ranks.
