West Bengal police have summoned Humayun Kabir, the MLA from Nadia district, to appear at a police station on Monday, according to News18 Bengali. Officers also went to his residence, the outlet reported on Saturday, 19 September 2026.
The move comes shortly before the by-election in Rejinagar, a constituency in the same district. News18 Bengali links the police action to an audio clip that has been circulating in the run-up to the vote.
The summons was served at the lawmaker's home, where, according to Anandabazar Patrika, the candidate for Rejinagar, Gulam, signed to acknowledge it after being told that Kabir was not at the house. The same outlet reported that the call to the police station relates to the audio dispute.
