Police Seek Witnesses After Armed Home Invasion Attempt in Kvam

Police in western Norway are appealing for public help after two masked individuals entered a private home between Øystese and Norheimsund in Kvam and attacked the couple living there. The incident, which investigators have classified as an attempted aggravated robbery, happened at 03:10 in the early hours of Saturday. Bergensavisen reports that the two parents were the only people awake when the intruders got into the house.

According to police prosecutor Trine-Benedikte Opdal, the couple were subjected to violence of varying severity. The intruders also tried to force the pair to hand over valuables by threatening them with a firearm. Police have not yet recovered the weapon, so it remains unclear whether it was a real gun or a replica.

The man was taken to Voss hospital, where he was treated for a cut to his head, police prosecutor Farzad Izadi told Bergensavisen.

Why it matters

The case has drawn attention because the attack took place in a family home in a quiet coastal district, and because the perpetrators are still at large. Bergensavisen quotes a brief comment from Aarlie describing the night as a violent experience for the couple. With no suspect identified, police are relying on the public to help piece together what happened, and they are casting a wide net for information.

A car seen near the scene is a key lead

One of the leads investigators are pursuing concerns a vehicle spotted in the area in the hours before the break-in. Izadi told Bergensavisen that someone saw a car stop and turn around on Hardangerfjordvegen between 02:30 and 03:00. Police want the driver and any passengers in that car to come forward, and they are also asking anyone who noticed the vehicle or people around it to get in touch.

Investigators have carried out a scene examination, interviewed the victims and several witnesses, and collected surveillance footage from the surrounding area. Door-to-door inquiries have been conducted and are continuing. Izadi said police have gathered a substantial amount of material, including video that still needs to be reviewed, and that no one is currently a suspect or has been charged.

How the intruders left the property is another open question. Izadi said they could have departed by car, on foot or by boat, given that the location sits close to the coast.

Police ask residents to check their cameras

Officers have already issued one public appeal for tips and are now asking for more. People living between Norheimsund and Øystese are being asked to review any camera footage they have covering the period from midnight to 05:00 on Saturday 31 October.

Izadi said police have some information and working hypotheses about what lay behind the attack, but he stressed that the investigation is still at an early stage and that much remains unresolved.

Bergensavisen reported that NRK, VG and other outlets have also covered the case, which has been described in Norwegian media as an armed robbery attempt at a private address.

What happens next depends largely on whether the public comes forward. Police are waiting on the driver and passenger of the car seen on Hardangerfjordvegen, and on any footage residents can supply, as they work to identify the two people who entered the house.
