Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has made a public outburst directed at the club's hierarchy, according to reports. The Athletic, published by The New York Times, reported on the incident and said it shines a harsh light on Jason Wilcox, United's football director.
Sky Sports reports that Martinez's future at the club is now in doubt following the public criticism. The Guardian described the episode as Manchester United's internal disputes receiving a very public airing.
Former United striker Wayne Rooney called Martinez's comments "disrespectful," according to ESPN. The BBC, meanwhile, used the incident as the basis for a quiz asking readers about famous criticisms of football owners.
The reports, published on Wednesday, do not include the full text of Martinez's remarks. The available coverage centers on the fallout, the scrutiny directed at Wilcox, and questions about whether the defender will remain at Old Trafford.
The episode places renewed attention on Wilcox, who oversees football operations at the club. The Athletic's framing suggests the outburst has raised questions about the leadership structure Martinez was criticizing.
Martinez's future at Manchester United remains uncertain, according to Sky Sports. Whether the club responds publicly, and whether Martinez stays at Old Trafford, are the next developments to watch.
