Police in Juja, Kiambu County, have arrested a woman suspected of fatally stabbing her 38-year-old partner after an argument turned violent along Chai Road, near a local bar. The man, identified as Boniface Waweru, was stabbed on the lower right side of his chest on November 5 and died while being treated at Nain Hospital, according to The Star, Kenya.
The Star, Kenya reports that Waweru was heading home when he became involved in a heated exchange with a male security guard. The confrontation reportedly escalated when a woman joined the two and allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Waweru.
The injured man was taken to Nain Hospital, where he died from his injuries during treatment. Members of the public are said to have detained the suspect at the hospital before police arrived and took her into custody.
Officers escorted the woman to Juja Farm Police Station, where she was held as inquiries continued. A knife with blood on it, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered at the scene and kept as an exhibit.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased and the suspect were in a romantic relationship. Detectives suspect that a disagreement connected to that relationship may have led to the fatal confrontation, The Star, Kenya reports.
Waweru's body was later taken to General Kago Mortuary in Thika, where it is being kept pending a postmortem examination.
Why it matters
The Juja case is one of three fatal stabbings reported in Kenya in the same week, each involving people who were close to the deceased. Taken together, they draw attention to how quickly domestic and personal disputes can turn deadly, and to the pressure on local police to establish what happened in each case.
Two of the three investigations hinge on accounts given by family members that differ from what suspects are said to have told them, which places the initial police findings under scrutiny before any postmortem results are available.
Second death under investigation in Nyeri
In Mukurweini, Nyeri County, police have opened an investigation into the death of a 38-year-old man found stabbed in his bedroom at Gathambara Village.
The deceased, identified as James Mutahi Nderi, was discovered at around 3am on Friday, November 6, 2026, lying on his bed with a stab wound to his left thigh and blood pooled on the floor, according to The Star, Kenya.
Police said the man's wife allegedly told his mother that her husband had stabbed himself before leaving the scene. The deceased's mother, however, told investigators that the couple had a long history of domestic disputes and alleged that the wife had threatened to kill her son more than once.
Crime Scene Investigation personnel documented and processed the scene before the body was moved to Mukurweini Level Four Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination. Police said efforts were under way to find and arrest the man's wife to help with the investigation.
Kakamega body found in brother's house
In Kakamega County, police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man whose body was found inside his brother's house in Iremere Village, Madivini Sub-location.
Edwin Matayo was discovered dead at around 3.20am on November 6, 2026, in a house where he had reportedly been staying alone, The Star, Kenya reports. Officers who went to the scene found the body lying on its back with injuries visible on the left hand and leg, and blood was seen coming from his nose.
The body was taken to Mbale Level Four Hospital mortuary, where it is being kept pending a postmortem examination. Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the death and trying to identify who was responsible.
What to watch
The suspect in the Juja case remains in custody at Juja Farm Police Station, and the knife recovered at the scene has been preserved as an exhibit. Postmortem examinations are pending for all three deceased, and police in Nyeri and Kakamega are still working to identify and locate those responsible.
