Police in Juja, Kiambu County, have arrested a woman suspected of fatally stabbing her 38-year-old boyfriend during a heated dispute along Chai Road, near a local bar. The man, identified as Boniface Waweru, died at Nain Hospital after being stabbed on the lower right side of his chest on November 5, according to The Star, Kenya.
Why it matters
The arrest adds to a growing set of domestic violence cases Kenyan police reported over the same week, in Kiambu, Nyeri and Kakamega counties. In each case the victim was a man killed in a setting linked to a close relationship or family dispute, and in each the suspected attacker was someone the victim knew. The pattern has drawn attention to how quickly arguments inside homes and relationships are turning fatal, and to how often relatives are the ones left to press for answers.
How the Juja confrontation unfolded
According to police accounts cited by The Star, Kenya, Waweru was heading home when he became involved in a heated argument with a male security guard. The confrontation reportedly escalated when a woman joined the two, allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Waweru.
He was taken to Nain Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
Members of the public are said to have held the suspect at the hospital until officers arrived and took her into custody. She was escorted to Juja Farm Police Station and detained as investigations continue.
Preliminary inquiries established that Waweru and the suspect were in a romantic relationship. Detectives suspect that a disagreement over that relationship may have set off the fatal confrontation, The Star, Kenya reports.
A knife with blood on it, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered at the scene and kept as an exhibit. Waweru's body was later moved to General Kago Mortuary in Thika, where it is being held pending a postmortem examination.
Two more killings under investigation
The same week brought two other homicide investigations in different parts of the country.
In Mukurweini, Nyeri County, police are looking into the death of a 38-year-old man found stabbed in his bedroom at Gathambara Village. James Mutahi Nderi was discovered lying on his bed with a stab wound to his left thigh and blood pooled on the floor at about 3am on Friday, November 6, 2026.
Police said the man's wife allegedly told his mother that he had stabbed himself before leaving the scene. The mother, however, told investigators that the couple had a long history of domestic disputes and that the wife had threatened several times to kill her son, according to The Star, Kenya.
Crime Scene Investigation personnel processed the scene before the body was taken to Mukurweini Level Four Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem. Police said efforts were under way to find and arrest the wife to help with the investigation.
In Kakamega County, officers are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man whose body was found inside his brother's house in Iremere Village, Madivini Sub-location. Edwin Matayo was discovered dead at about 3.20am on November 6, 2026, in a house where he had reportedly been living alone.
Officers who went to the scene found the body on its back, with injuries visible on the left hand and leg and blood coming from his nose. The body was moved to Mbale Level Four Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem. Police said they are working to establish what happened and who was responsible.
What to watch
The Juja suspect remains in custody at Juja Farm Police Station while detectives complete their inquiries, and Waweru's postmortem at General Kago Mortuary is expected to add detail to the case file. In Nyeri and Kakamega, the next steps are the search for the Nyeri wife and the results of postmortems in both cases.
