President Trump has selected Katie Zacharia, a conservative commentator, to serve as the next White House press secretary, according to reports from several major news outlets on Friday.
The New York Times reported that Zacharia was picked for the role. The Washington Post described her as a conservative commentator tapped for the position, while CNN reported that Trump selected her as the next person to hold the job. ABC News reported that she was offered the position, and NBC News, in live updates, also identified the appointee as a conservative commentator.
The role of White House press secretary places its holder at the center of the administration's daily communication with the news media, typically leading briefings and speaking for the president on matters of policy and breaking events.
Zacharia's selection drew coverage across outlets within a short span on Friday, though the reports available did not include further details about her background, a formal announcement event, or a start date.
What to watch next: whether the White House confirms the appointment formally and when Zacharia is expected to begin briefing reporters.
