Karnataka will bring in revised bus fares across its state-run transport corporations from November 5, according to The Indian Express. The change covers the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and other state-run services.

The state transport minister said the purpose of the revision is to keep the corporations running rather than to earn a profit, The Indian Express reported. Hindustan Times reported that fares would go up by as much as ₹9, and that BMTC and Vayu Vajra services would cost more.

Swarajya reported that the revision follows cumulative losses at the corporations reaching ₹9,000 crore. Moneycontrol noted the fare increase came shortly after a similar hike in milk prices in the state.

Deccan Herald said passengers can check the revised BMTC and KSRTC fare tables for the new rates.

The reporting so far gives the broad direction of the hike and its stated reason, but not a full breakdown of every route or class of service. Riders in Bengaluru and elsewhere in Karnataka will be watching how the new fares are applied from November 5.
