Raphaël Glucksmann has won the French left's social-democratic primary for the presidential election, according to Le Monde.fr. In his victory remarks, he said the result belonged to everyone who believes the left must break with La France Insoumise (LFI), the party led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

He also extended an offer of cooperation to former president François Hollande, Le Monde.fr reported.

The outcome drew criticism from within the left. TF1 Info reported that Marine Tondelier said she regretted that the winner was "the one who makes the choice of withdrawal."

The victory event was briefly disrupted when someone threw flour in front of the cameras, according to La Montagne. France 24 described Glucksmann's win as a broad one.

The primary vote was organized to select a single social-democratic candidate for the presidential race. LCP-Assemblée nationale had reported on when first-round results would be known.

Attention now turns to how Glucksmann's call for a split from LFI will be received by other left-wing parties, and whether Hollande responds to the hand extended to him.
