Police in Ghana have arrested a 47-year-old woman in connection with the shooting deaths of a man and his niece at the NTHC Estate in Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region. The suspect, Beatrice Mumuni, is accused of taking the alleged gunman to the victims' home before the killings on Friday, October 30, 2026, according to Graphic Online. The dead have been named as George Atuguba, 57, and Irene Atuguba, 47.
The police announced Mumuni's arrest in a statement issued on October 31, 2026, the day after the killings. In the same statement, the service declared the principal suspect, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, wanted and put up a GH¢100,000 reward for information that leads to his capture. Members of the public who know where he is have been asked to contact the nearest police station or to call the emergency lines 191 or 18555.
Why it matters
The case has drawn wide attention in Ghana, not only for the loss of two lives in a single household but for the sum of money said to lie behind it. According to the police account reported by Graphic Online, George Atuguba had borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto and had not paid it back. Investigators looking at the scene said their early findings pointed to a financial dispute between the two men as the likely cause of the killings.
The GH¢100,000 bounty is a public appeal for help in a manhunt that is now into its second day. It also places the case in the hands of ordinary residents as much as the police, since the service is relying on tip-offs to find the man it says pulled the trigger.
What the police say happened
In an earlier statement, the police said officers from the Sakumono District Police Command were sent to a house at the NTHC Estate after word reached them of the incident. On arrival, the officers found the bodies of George Atuguba and his niece lying in pools of blood.
The remains were later taken to the Police Hospital Mortuary, where they are being kept pending autopsy.
The police account states that Osei Anto went to the victims' home on the morning of the incident, with Mumuni accompanying him, to press for repayment of the money. A misunderstanding is said to have arisen during that visit, and Osei Anto reportedly shot both victims.
Mumuni's alleged role, as described by the police, was to lead Osei Anto to the residence. She has been arrested in connection with the killings; the police have not said what charge she faces. Under Ghanaian law, a person arrested in connection with an offence must be brought before a court within a set period, though the police have not indicated when that will happen.
A debt dispute that ended in two deaths
The police statement frames the killings as the outcome of a loan that went unpaid. George Atuguba, according to that account, had taken GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto and had not returned it, and the visit on the morning of October 30 was meant to settle the matter.
How the encounter turned fatal is not yet clear beyond the police description of a misunderstanding during the visit. The service has not said whether anyone else was in the house at the time, whether a weapon has been recovered, or how many shots were fired. It has also not named a lawyer for Mumuni or for the wanted man.
The case has been reported by several Ghanaian outlets, including Graphic Online, Citi Newsroom, GhanaWeb, Asaase Radio and 3News, all of which carried the police statements on the arrest and the reward.
The search for Samuel Osei Anto
Osei Anto remains at large. The police have described him as the principal suspect and are asking anyone who sees him or knows his movements to come forward rather than approach him. The GH¢100,000 reward is offered for information that results in his arrest.
The appeal to the public is a familiar step in Ghanaian policing when a suspect is believed to have left the immediate area of a crime. It depends on residents passing on what they know, either at a station or through the emergency numbers the police have circulated.
What to watch
The next developments are likely to be the autopsy results, any charges brought against Mumuni, and whether the reward produces a lead on Osei Anto's whereabouts.
