Ajax coach Michel Sanchez singled out Marcos Leonardo for praise and described his side as full of energy after a 5-2 Eredivisie victory at FC Groningen on Sunday, according to De Telegraaf. The Dutch newspaper reported that Sanchez wants his team to keep building on that performance, quoting him as saying this is how they want to continue.
The result gave Ajax a convincing away win in a high-scoring match, NOS reported, with the Amsterdam club winning 2-5 in Groningen. AD.nl framed the victory as a recovery for Ajax following a setback in European competition.
The match also drew a reaction from the Groningen side. RTV Noord reported that Van Bergen watched the game with frustration, saying it is annoying when opponents keep running to the away section to celebrate.
De Telegraaf's report focused on Sanchez's assessment of his players rather than on tactical details, highlighting his satisfaction with the team's energy and his praise for Marcos Leonardo. The headline of that report was that Sanchez saw a team with plenty of energy and wants to proceed in the same way.
Ajax will look to carry the momentum from the Groningen result into their next fixture, with attention on whether Sanchez keeps the same lineup and whether Marcos Leonardo builds on the performance that earned his coach's praise.
