Thirty-five cyclists drawn from various East African countries have completed a 55-day ride across East African Community territory, ending with an awards ceremony in Kampala, according to NTV Uganda.
The cyclists used the journey to carry a message of integration, peace and environmental conservation, the outlet reported. Rebecca Kadaga, Uganda's Minister of East African Affairs, received the team on its return and presented awards to the participants.
The ride took the group through EAC member states over close to two months, with the Kampala event marking the close of the expedition.
The East African Community is a regional bloc whose members cooperate on cross-border matters, and the cycling adventure was framed around that same theme of closer ties between member states. NTV Uganda reports that the participants came from different countries within the community, though the outlet did not name them or specify the full route.
Details such as the exact starting point, the number of countries covered and the identities of individual award recipients were not included in the reporting.
What to watch next: whether organisers announce a follow-up edition of the cycling adventure or release further details on the route and participants.
