Firefighters in Castellón faced a fresh challenge on Thursday after a flare-up of the Vall d'Uixó wildfire broke out near the town of Betxí, according to Levante-EMV. The resurgence prompted immediate alarm among emergency crews who have been battling the blaze for nearly a week.
The wildfire, which ignited in the Vall d'Uixó area, has now entered its sixth day and has burned approximately 9,600 hectares of land, reports RTVE.es. Crews have managed to consolidate about 70 percent of the fire's perimeter, but officials have not yet declared the situation stable, according to Levante-EMV. The fire's containment line allowed residents from nine municipalities to return to their homes, reports castellonaldia.elmundo.es.
The Spanish meteorological agency Aemet has analyzed the weather conditions that contributed to the fire's behavior in the region, noting that July 2026 presented particular challenges for firefighters in Castellón. The combination of dry vegetation and local wind patterns has complicated suppression efforts throughout the week.

Emergency services remain on high alert as the Betxí flare-up threatens to undo progress made in recent days. Authorities are monitoring the new outbreak closely and have not ruled out further evacuations if conditions worsen.
