Vice President JD Vance has made contact with a hard-line figure in Iran as part of an effort to get peace negotiations moving again, according to an exclusive report from the Wall Street Journal published on Wednesday.
The WSJ did not identify the Iranian official or provide details on the nature or timing of the outreach. The report describes the move as an attempt to restart talks that have apparently stalled.
The contact is notable because it targets a hard-liner rather than a figure from Iran's more moderate camp. The WSJ's reporting does not explain why that particular channel was chosen or what response, if any, the outreach has received.
The WSJ account offers no further information on the state of the negotiations, the terms under discussion, or the involvement of other parties. It also does not say whether the contact was conducted directly or through intermediaries.
What to watch next: whether Tehran publicly acknowledges the contact, and whether it leads to formal talks or remains a back-channel approach.
