A United States-based organisation has formally requested the revocation of Mohan Bhagwat's visa, according to The Indian Express. Bhagwat is the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist organisation in India.
The request comes just days before Bhagwat is scheduled to appear at an event in New York City. The Indian Express reported the development on Thursday, 27 August 2026, but did not name the US body making the request or provide further details on the grounds cited for the visa revocation.
Separately, The Hindu reported that the X account of the organisation hosting Bhagwat's New York event was blocked for several hours. The Times of India and Rediff also covered the suspension of the host group's X account ahead of the programme. The host organisation is identified as AHEAD, according to The Times of India.
The timing of the account suspension has raised questions, as it occurred shortly before the scheduled event. Neither the host organisation nor the social media platform has publicly explained the reason for the action, based on the reporting available.

The Indian Express also published a separate opinion piece addressing New York State Assembly member Zohran Mamdani, who has been critical of Bhagwat. That piece appears to offer counterpoints to Mamdani's statements about the RSS chief.
The visa request and the social media suspension together signal heightened friction around Bhagwat's planned visit to the US. It remains unclear whether the visa revocation request will gain traction with US authorities or whether the event will proceed as scheduled.
