Ukrainian missile and drone strikes have killed civilians inside Russian territory, while Russian forces have struck infrastructure in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa, according to reports from multiple outlets on Monday.

The Arabic-language news service العربية reported that Ukrainian rockets caused fatalities in Russia and that Moscow's forces responded by bombing infrastructure in Odesa. A separate report from Sky News Arabia put the death toll from Ukrainian attacks in the Belgorod region and Kherson at eight people.

The reports indicate the cross-border exchanges continued to intensify over the weekend and into Monday. Ukrainian authorities, cited by the Egyptian outlet بوابة الأهرام, said two people were killed and three wounded in Russian strikes on the Zaporizhzhia region.

In a separate development, the Russian state news agency Novosti, as relayed by بوابة الشروق, claimed that Russian air defenses have shot down more than 100,000 Ukrainian drones since the start of the year. The figure could not be independently verified.

Russian officials also said their forces destroyed two cargo ships in Odesa and the nearby port of Mykolaiv, alleging the vessels were being used to deliver weapons to Ukraine, according to the outlet اليوم السابع.

The reports paint a picture of a conflict in which both sides are hitting targets deep behind the front lines, with civilian casualties mounting in border regions. The Ukrainian strikes on Belgorod, which sits close to the Ukrainian border, and the Russian bombardment of Odesa's port infrastructure suggest neither side is showing signs of de-escalation.

What to watch next: whether the reported strikes on shipping in Odesa prompt a new round of international condemnation or a shift in naval tactics in the Black Sea.
