A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) official says the party will enter structured negotiations with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as an equal partner ahead of the 2027 elections, according to The Star, Kenya.
The same position was reported by People Daily, which said the talks between the two parties would be structured and that UDA intends to deal with ODM on equal terms.
Separately, ODM's Junet Mohamed said his party will hold on to its current seats in Parliament and add to them before the next elections. His remarks were reported alongside the coverage of the UDA-ODM talks.
The statements come as a joint team from the two parties has begun refining a shared manifesto for the 2027 elections, The Standard reported. The work on a common policy document suggests the cooperation between UDA and ODM is moving beyond general declarations.
The arrangement has also drawn public comment. Radiokaya reported that Nassir defended the ODM-UDA agreement and rejected claims that his side was asking for positions as part of the deal. Meanwhile, the Kenya News Agency reported that ODM leaders were urged to avoid divisive politics.
Taken together, the reports point to a partnership that is still being defined, with both parties publicly framing their roles and goals before formal talks are concluded.
What to watch next: whether the structured negotiations produce a formal agreement and how the joint manifesto takes shape before 2027.
