Tshwane’s chief financial officer, Gareth Mnisi, has stated that the Democratic Alliance’s court application regarding the suspension of the city manager lacks any legal basis. TimesLIVE reported his comments on Wednesday.
The dispute centres on the suspension of Tshwane city manager Johann Mettler. The DA has taken the matter to court, arguing that the suspension was intended to clear the way for corruption, according to eNCA. ActionSA has also clarified its position as the case appeared before a judge.
Mnisi’s dismissal of the DA’s legal move adds a new dimension to the ongoing political and administrative conflict inside the Tshwane council. News24 noted that the council faces a “maths problem” that is now receiving a legal hearing. The executive mayor has separately provided an update on litigation involving both the municipal manager and the CFO, Polity.org.za reported.

The court is expected to rule on the DA’s application in the coming weeks.
