President Donald Trump has denied reports that the United States is running short of ammunition because of the war with Iran, and he has threatened to pursue legal action against anyone who leaked information about military stockpiles, according to BBC.
The denial comes after multiple outlets, including The Washington Post, reported a sharp disagreement between Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over the depletion of weapons reserves during the conflict with Iran. The White House has also rejected those reports, with officials saying there is no such tension at the top of the administration.
BBC reports that Trump’s response was direct: he said the ammunition supply is sufficient and dismissed the claims as false. He went further, warning that he would track down and prosecute the individuals responsible for disclosing sensitive inventory details to the press.
The dispute centers on whether the ongoing military operations against Iran have drained U.S. weapons stockpiles faster than they can be replenished. The Washington Post’s reporting, cited by Al Jazeera and other outlets, suggested that Hegseth had raised concerns internally about the strain on reserves, and that Trump reacted angrily to those warnings.

The White House, however, has publicly backed Hegseth and denied any rift. Sky News Arabia also reported that the White House dismissed the story as inaccurate.
What to watch next: whether any leaker is actually identified and charged, and whether new data on U.S. ammunition production or transfers to the conflict zone emerges to settle the dispute.
