US President Donald Trump said he held a "great meeting" with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House, according to DW.com. The talks took place on Friday, and a state dinner was held in Xi's honor at the White House, Reforma reports.
The meeting drew attention to trade, with The New York Times reporting that Trump found little room to negotiate with Xi over Chinese exports. Ahead of the talks, China warned that Taiwan was "the most important issue," according to El Comentario.
Coverage of the visit also included the state dinner itself, which Reforma described in a report on how the evening looked. Yahoo, in a roundup of European news, listed Trump's state dinner for Xi alongside Pope Leo XIV's first visit to France.
The meeting between the two leaders comes amid ongoing tensions over trade and other disputes between Washington and Beijing. The New York Times account suggests the export issue remained unresolved after the talks, while Trump's own characterization of the discussion was positive.
What to watch next: whether the two sides announce any concrete outcomes from the meeting, particularly on trade and export policy.
