Nicolo Tresoldi headed Club Brugge into the lead in the 25th minute at PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday, a goal that made him the most prolific German scorer for a non-German club within a single Champions League season, according to Goal.com. The Belgian side went on to win 2-1 in Eindhoven on matchday four of the league phase.
The 25th-minute header was Tresoldi's fifth goal of this European campaign. He had previously found the net in a 3-2 opening loss to Aston Villa and struck a hat-trick in a 4-3 victory away to Inter Milan. Goal.com reports that no German player has scored more for a club outside Germany in one Champions League season.
Why it matters
The result leaves Club Brugge on nine points after four matches, ninth in the table and within reach of the last 16. Under the competition's format, the top eight sides go straight through when the league phase concludes in late January, while teams placed ninth to 24th must negotiate a play-off round first.
Tresoldi's form is also drawing wider attention. Goal.com reports that several leading clubs are monitoring the striker, whose goal in Eindhoven added to his growing reputation. He is a Germany Under-21 international and regarded as one of the German federation's most promising attacking talents, though his Italian heritage leaves him eligible to represent Italy as well. According to Goal.com, he intends to play for Germany at next summer's Under-21 European Championship, with his plans after that tournament still undecided.
Brugge hold on after Sano's reply
PSV levelled in the 54th minute through Kodai Sano, giving the home side a route back into the contest. Club Brugge restored their advantage in the 65th minute when Carlos Forbs scored, and that proved enough to secure the three points.
Como's record night at Lens
Elsewhere, Champions League newcomers Como, coached by Cesc Fabregas, won 9-1 away at RC Lens — the largest margin of victory in the competition's history, per Goal.com. Real Madrid's 8-0 win over Malmö in 2015 and Liverpool's 8-0 defeat of Besiktas in 2007 had previously held the record jointly.
Marc Oliver Kempf, formerly of the Bundesliga, was among the scorers. Striker Tassos Douvikas registered a hat-trick and was named man of the match. The ninth goal arrived in stoppage time from Matteo Papaccioli, an 18-year-old midfield prospect who had come off the bench for his first senior appearance for Como and his Champions League debut.
The result lifted Como to fourth on nine points, level with Club Brugge. Only holders Paris Saint-Germain have scored more in this season's competition, with 20 goals from four matches to Como's 19 — an average above 4.5 per game for Fabregas's team, which has also beaten RB Leipzig 4-1 and Manchester United 4-1.
Around the grounds
Viking Stavanger defeated Sabah FK 4-1 in a fixture between two of the competition's less fancied sides, improving the Norwegian club's prospects of finishing inside the top 24 and reaching the knockout stage.
Arsenal, runners-up last season, won 2-1 at Slavia Prague and sit third on ten points. Viktor Gyökeres, who joined the London club from Sporting Lisbon for €70 million in 2025, scored his second goal of the season in all competitions in Prague. He set up Noni Madueke's ninth-minute opener and doubled the lead in the 38th minute. Only PSG and Real Madrid, the two teams above Arsenal, remain unbeaten.
The next round of league-phase fixtures will show whether Club Brugge and Como can hold their places in the automatic qualification spots, and whether Tresoldi's scoring run continues to attract suitors.
