Tom Cruise's latest film is performing poorly in cinemas and is on course to lose billions of kronor, according to Aftonbladet. The Swedish outlet reports that the movie could go down as a historic flop.
Aftonbladet describes the situation as a billion-krona failure for Cruise. A separate Aftonbladet headline states plainly that the actor's new film is flopping at cinemas. No ticket-sales figures, production budget or release date were included in the material available.
The weak performance stands out against the wider cinema landscape covered by Swedish media. Svenska Dagbladet published a list of the best films currently showing in theatres, while Expressen reviewed "Digger," calling it visually impressive but something close to a farce. Omni reported that "Digger," despite its heavyweight cast, is a total flop at the box office — suggesting Cruise is not the only star whose recent release has failed to draw audiences.
What remains unclear is how far the film's returns will fall short of its costs, and whether the loss will be confirmed as a record. Further box-office data and any official response from the film's backers will show whether Aftonbladet's "historic flop" framing holds up.
