President Bola Tinubu has asked voters in Rivers State to return him to office for a second term so he can continue delivering prosperity, according to TheCable. Speaking to supporters in the state on Saturday, the president framed the permanent voter card as a weapon against poverty, Channels Television reported.

TheCable also reports that Governor Siminalayi Fubara credited Tinubu with stepping in "as a father" to help settle the political dispute in Rivers. Separately, Punch Newspapers reports that Fubara has thrown his weight behind a broad coalition and pledged three million votes for the president in 2027.

Reflecting on his first campaign, Tinubu said he appeared "very hopeless" going into the 2023 race, according to Daily Post Nigeria.

The Rivers visit comes as the state's political leadership signals support for the president's re-election bid. Fubara's public praise for Tinubu's mediation follows a period of friction within the state's politics that the governor says the president helped calm.

The event also served as a voter mobilisation push, with the president urging supporters to treat their voter cards as the means to change their economic circumstances.

Attention now turns to how the promised coalition takes shape in Rivers and whether the three million vote pledge is matched by actual registration and turnout.
