Actor Tim Curry, best known for his roles in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "It," has died at the age of 80, according to CNN Brasil. The outlet reported the news on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, without specifying a cause of death.
Curry's portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" made him a cultural icon. He also gained a new generation of fans as the terrifying Pennywise the Clown in the 1990 television miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's "It."
According to Brazilian news outlet Folha de S.Paulo, Curry's death was confirmed on the same day. The actor had been largely out of the public eye for the past 14 years, as reported by VEJA magazine. He suffered a major stroke in 2012, which left him using a wheelchair and limited his public appearances.
In his final interviews, Curry reflected on his health struggles without fear of death and said he had no plans for retirement, according to O Globo. He continued to work in voice acting and other projects when possible, despite his physical limitations.

The news of his passing also prompted Brazilian outlet Revista Quem to note that Curry was one of three actors from "Home Alone" to die in 2026. Curry appeared in the 1990 comedy "Home Alone" as the grumpy hotel clerk, Mr. Hector.
Curry's career spanned more than five decades, including stage work in London and New York, film, and television. He earned a Tony Award nomination for his role in the Broadway musical "Spamalot" in 2005.
Fans and colleagues are expected to pay tribute to the actor in the coming days, with retrospectives of his most memorable performances likely to follow.
