Civil society groups have passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Amupitan, and the nation's security agencies ahead of the upcoming election, according to The Guardian Nigeria News.
The groups expressed their backing for the president and the APC candidate, as well as for the security agencies tasked with ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The vote of confidence was reported by The Guardian Nigeria News on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The development comes as the Osun State governorship election draws near, with political tensions rising across the state. The Guardian Nigeria News reports that the groups' endorsement is intended to signal support for the current administration's handling of the electoral process and to encourage a smooth and credible exercise.
In related coverage, The Guardian Nigeria News also reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has vowed to improve its performance in the 2027 general elections, acknowledging challenges faced during recent polls. Channels Television, meanwhile, analyzed the voting patterns that contributed to the victory of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke in previous elections, while Punch Newspapers weighed in on the broader political implications of the Osun contest.
The confidence vote in Tinubu, Amupitan, and the security agencies underscores the high stakes of the Osun election, which is being closely watched as a test of the APC's standing in the South-West region. The groups' statement also highlights the importance placed on security arrangements to prevent violence and ensure voter turnout.
As the election date approaches, all eyes will be on Osun State to see whether the security agencies can maintain order and whether the political endorsements translate into votes at the polls.
