Sunway Healthcare shares declined 1.8% on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, according to BusinessToday Malaysia, which reported the drop came alongside higher-than-usual trading volume.
The decline coincided with news that Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, GIC, has exited its remaining stake in the healthcare provider. The Edge Malaysia reported that the fund cashed out more than RM1 billion worth of Sunway Healthcare shares. Moomoo also noted that the stock, trading under the ticker SUNMED, moved against a stronger Kuala Lumpur Composite Index as GIC completed its exit.
The share sale and the price dip come as Sunway Medical Group pushes ahead with expansion. The group recently broke ground on the RM800 million Sunway Medical Centre Iskandar Puteri in Johor, a project reported by klsescreener.com and The Independent Singapore. That development is tied to Johor's expanding Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone healthcare sector, according to The Independent Singapore.

Taken together, the reports point to a stock reacting to a large institutional exit rather than to any disclosed change in the company's operations. GIC's disposal removes a major shareholder from the register, while the group continues to invest in new hospital capacity in southern Malaysia.
Investors will be watching whether the selling pressure eases once GIC's exit is fully absorbed, and whether the Iskandar Puteri project stays on schedule.
