Google is offering students a free 12-month subscription to its AI Plus tier, according to Brazilian tech outlet TecMundo. The promotion provides access to the company's premium AI features, including its Gemini assistant, for a full year without cost.
The offer is part of a broader push by Google to support students with AI tools. TecMundo reports that the redemption process is straightforward, though the outlet did not detail specific eligibility requirements beyond student status. The free access appears designed to give learners hands-on experience with tools like Gemini, which can assist with research, writing, and study organization.
Beyond the AI Plus subscription, Google has rolled out several student-focused updates. According to CNN Brasil, the company has refreshed its AI tools to make studying easier, though specifics on those changes were not provided in the summary. TudoCelular.com notes that Gemini and Google Search have received a major update featuring test support, PDF handling, and 3D models aimed at students. Additionally, Tecnoblog reports that Google has launched a new Student Hub, a centralized space that brings together its AI functionalities for educational use.
Canaltech also highlighted the broader deal, noting that students can get Gemini and 5 terabytes of cloud storage free for one year. This aligns with the AI Plus subscription, suggesting a comprehensive package for learners.
The timing of the announcement, reported on August 20, 2026, comes just ahead of the new academic year in many regions. Students interested in the offer should check Google's official channels or the TecMundo article for redemption instructions.
What to watch next: Whether Google extends this free access beyond the 12-month period or expands it to educators and other groups.
