Rui Borges spoke to journalists on Friday, August 7, 2026, in a press conference previewing Sporting's upcoming match against Estrela da Amadora, according to Notícias ao Minuto. The Sporting manager fielded questions on team preparation, player availability, and the club's objectives for the season.
The press conference comes as Sporting prepares for their Primeira Liga fixture. Borges acknowledged the team's ambitions without expressing undue pressure, as reported by RTP. He recognized that expectations are high at the club but maintained a measured tone about the challenges ahead.
Squad Updates and Player Departures
During the briefing, Borges addressed the situation of two players, Pedro Gonçalves and Daniel Bragança. According to TVI, the coach stated that both players are "eager to experience new things," indicating they are set to leave the club. This suggests significant squad changes as Sporting looks to reshape their roster.
Meanwhile, the opposing side is also making headlines. Estrela da Amadora's coach, Pepa, promised a competitive team "hungry to win" ahead of the match, as reported by Record. Pepa expressed confidence that his squad would surprise opponents in the upcoming championship campaign.
Fan Expectations
A Bola ran a separate feature asking Sporting supporters to vote on their preferred starting eleven for the match. The fan-selected lineup highlighted new signings and a potential tactical shift, with attention on players adapting to a left-sided role.
The match represents an early test for both clubs in the new season. Sporting will aim to start strongly, while Estrela da Amadora looks to establish themselves as a difficult opponent.
