The death toll from a collision between two trains in Spain has risen to 64, according to the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha. Le Monde.fr reports that the figure remains provisional. The crash occurred in the Toledo area, based on survivor accounts published by Le Figaro.

Le Monde.fr carried the updated count in a live report on Wednesday. Other French outlets, including 20 Minutes and franceinfo, also covered the collision and its aftermath.

Witnesses described disorder inside the carriages. franceinfo reported that passengers and bystanders spoke of chaotic scenes, with people shouting inside the trains. Le Figaro quoted a survivor who said she rushed toward the luggage and found everything wrecked.

Spanish football has also responded to the disaster. Foot Mercato reported that the Copa del Rey matchday has been postponed.

Authorities have not yet given a final accounting of the dead and injured, and the regional government's tally may change again. Further updates are expected as emergency services continue their work at the site.
