The People Power Party (PPP) has added two new members to its ethics committee, a move that could pave the way for disciplinary proceedings against a lawmaker, according to 조선일보.

The decision was made during a supreme council meeting on Thursday, July 30, 2026. The expansion comes as the party grapples with internal strife, with some factions pushing for sanctions against a member while others resist. 조선일보 reports that the ethics committee chair has warned that any leaks of internal discussions will result in a request for the offending committee member's dismissal.

The move has sparked immediate backlash. Lawmaker Woo Jae-joon, aligned with a faction supportive of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, reportedly raised his voice in protest during the supreme council meeting over the new appointments. Meanwhile, PPP lawmaker Cho Gwang-han has publicly called for fellow lawmaker Kwon Young-jin to leave the party, according to YTN. Cho reportedly suggested renaming a faction called "Alternatives and Future" to "Violence and Excuses," reflecting the deepening rift.

Observers will watch whether the expanded ethics committee now moves to formally discipline the targeted lawmaker, a step that could further fracture the party ahead of future elections.
