Sony Pictures has signed on as the worldwide distributor for the upcoming epic film Ramayana, according to an announcement from DNEG. The visual effects and production company confirmed the arrangement in a statement released on Tuesday.
The film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, is being produced by DNEG. The company's announcement did not specify a release date for the movie itself, but it confirmed Sony Pictures will handle the global theatrical rollout.
DNEG's Namit Malhotra has also provided updates on the film's trailer. According to reports from The Times of India, the trailer is scheduled for release on July 30. Malhotra confirmed the launch will take place worldwide during the Brahma Muhurat, an auspicious period in the Hindu calendar that occurs before sunrise. NDTV reported the specific timing as 4:15 AM on Thursday.
The trailer release was previously postponed, and Malhotra told Moneycontrol that the new date "could be any" day, though he has since settled on the July 30 window. India Today noted that fans have been reacting to the confirmed Brahma Muhurat timing.
Ramayana is an adaptation of the ancient Indian epic of the same name. With Sony Pictures now attached as global distributor, the film is positioned for a wide international release. The trailer launch on July 30 will offer the first extended look at the project.
