Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez appeared on Wednesday from a forward command post in Navalcarnero, Madrid, to provide an update on the ongoing wildfires, according to an official communication from La Moncloa. The address came as authorities reported that the fires in Madrid and Ávila are now "technically stabilised" after burning for roughly a week.

The wildfires in the Madrid region have affected approximately 27,000 hectares and completely destroyed 100 primary residences, as reported by EL PAÍS. Across both Madrid and Ávila, more than 70,000 hectares have been scorched, according to La Voz de Galicia. Sánchez highlighted the "favourable" evolution of the firefighting effort but urged maximum caution, ABC reported.

The government has emphasised the "anguish" felt by the thousands of people forced to evacuate their homes, El Mundo reports. Officials have stressed that the priority remains public safety, not political decision-making, and have asked evacuees for patience. The situation remains under close observation, with authorities warning that conditions could change.
