Skywatchers around the globe observed the July full moon this week, and Space magazine has published a selection of reader-submitted photographs. The outlet’s coverage highlights the “majestic Buck Moon” as seen from various locations.
The full moon that rises in July is traditionally called the Buck Moon, a name that originates from the time of year when male deer, or bucks, begin to grow their new antlers. According to Space, the Buck Moon peaked on Thursday, July 30, 2026, and drew the attention of both amateur and experienced skywatchers.
Space’s article features images taken by its readers, showcasing the moon in different settings and phases of its ascent. The publication did not specify the exact number of photos submitted but described them as “favorite photos” from the event. Other outlets, including CNN and WTHR, also covered the Buck Moon, noting its timing and visibility across North America.

For those who missed the July full moon, the next major lunar event will be the Sturgeon Moon in August.
