Singapore has accepted 243 recommendations put forward by United Nations member states as part of its Universal Periodic Review, The Straits Times reports. That figure represents 71 per cent of the recommendations Singapore received, according to the newspaper.

The Straits Times reported the development on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. The recommendations Singapore supported include measures to strengthen protections for migrant workers, according to CNA.

The Universal Periodic Review is a process in which the UN Human Rights Council examines the human rights records of all member states. The FIDH, an international human rights federation, published an oral statement concerning the adoption of Singapore's review.

The Straits Times and CNA both reported on the outcome, while the FIDH statement addressed the review's adoption. The material reviewed did not specify how many recommendations Singapore declined to support, nor did it identify which recommendations fell outside the 71 per cent it accepted.

Singapore's acceptance of 243 recommendations places the remaining share — roughly 29 per cent — outside the scope of what it agreed to. The Straits Times did not detail the reasons behind the recommendations Singapore did not accept.

What to watch next: whether Singapore publishes its formal response to the recommendations it did not accept, and how the migrant worker measures it backed are implemented.
