The Oca contrada won the general rehearsal for the Palio dell’Assunta, according to ANSA. The trial run took place in Siena ahead of the main race scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The Palio di Siena is a traditional horse race held twice each summer in the Tuscan city’s Piazza del Campo. The August edition, known as the Palio dell’Assunta, follows the July race and involves ten of the city’s seventeen contrade, or neighborhood districts. Corriere Fiorentino reports that the event includes detailed preparations around jockeys, horses, and long-standing rivalries between the contrade.
Sky TG24 noted that the participating contrade for the 2026 Assunta race had been confirmed, with attention focused on the favored jockeys and horses. The race itself is brief, typically lasting around 90 seconds, but the build-up involves multiple trial runs and complex alliances. La Gazzetta dello Sport explained that the Palio is governed by strict rules, and jockeys often form temporary agreements that can shift the outcome of the race.

The general rehearsal win by Oca is seen as a strong indicator of form, though it does not guarantee success in the actual competition. The race is known for its unpredictability, with falls and disqualifications common. The contrada’s victory in the trial will likely make it a contender to watch when the starting line forms on August 16. The main event will be broadcast live, with coverage available on Italian television.
