Saudi Arabia’s meteorological agency has issued a warning for thunderstorms expected over highland areas, along with winds that could stir up dust in several regions, according to a report from alyaum.

The alert, published on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, covers a range of areas where the weather service says conditions could become hazardous. The agency specifically cautioned about winds capable of raising dust and reducing visibility, a common risk in the kingdom’s desert and semi-arid zones.

The alyaum report is part of a broader set of advisories from Saudi weather authorities. Other outlets, including Sabq and Al-Madina, have carried similar warnings. One advisory from the Riyadh branch of the meteorological agency, cited by Sabq, pointed to dust storms affecting the towns of Al-Sulayyil and Wadi Al-Dawasir, with conditions expected to persist into the night. Another report, from Al-Madina, noted active winds and rain in the Sharurah area.

The National Center of Meteorology has also flagged extremely hot weather and dust that could limit visibility, with thunderstorms forecast for the Jazan and Asir regions, according to Okaz. In a separate statement, the agency said the chance of thunderstorms would continue through the end of next week, as reported by Sada newspaper.

These overlapping alerts suggest a broad weather system affecting multiple parts of the country, from the southern highlands to central and eastern areas. Residents in the affected zones are advised to stay updated on official warnings and take precautions against reduced visibility and sudden wind gusts.

What to watch next: whether the forecasted storms intensify or spread to additional regions as the week progresses.
