Saudi Arabia's foreign minister led his country's delegation to the opening of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and held four separate meetings on the first day, according to sabq.org.

The schedule included a session with the US envoy for Syria and Iraq, where the two sides discussed efforts to contain tensions, sabq.org reported. The minister also took part in a meeting of foreign ministers of the regional Quad group on the sidelines of the assembly, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The four meetings, as reported by sabq.org, were described as revealing the map of the Kingdom's alliances during a busy diplomatic day in New York.

The Gulf presence at international forums reflects the standing of the region's states, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported, citing Al-Budaiwi.
