The Samsung Lions have advanced to the Korean Series for the first time in two years, according to 영남일보. They secured the berth by defeating the KIA Tigers in a winner-take-all Game 5 of the playoff series on Sunday.
Samsung won the deciding game 6-1, with starter Faredo pitching seven innings and allowing one earned run, 조선일보 reported. OSEN reported that KIA starter Oller was removed after two innings in which he gave up four runs, a result the outlet framed as the payoff of a deliberate early-attack plan.
뉴시스 reported that Faredo was named series MVP after his seven-inning, one-earned-run outing in the clincher. The result ends KIA's run in a series that had reached its final possible game.
Samsung now meets KT in the Korean Series. According to 국제뉴스, the matchup follows Samsung's elimination of KIA in the playoff round.
The Korean Series is the KBO's championship round, and Samsung's return marks its first appearance there in two years. Further details on the series schedule were not included in the source material.
