The journalist Sigfrido Ranucci has raised questions about how anyone could know the contents of a chat found on Valter Lavitola's phone before the device was properly examined, according to Corriere Roma.

Corriere Roma reports that Ranucci is questioning the source of information regarding the chat's contents. The report suggests a mystery surrounds how details from the phone became known, given the timing of when the information surfaced relative to any official examination.

Ranucci, the former host of the investigative program Report, has been involved in a public dispute with Rai leadership. According to la Repubblica, Ranucci recently criticized Piero Piervincenzi and Paolo Presutti, who have taken over the program, calling them mediocre for achieving their positions without earning them. HuffPost Italia also reported similar remarks from Ranucci, who said it would be inhumane to lead the program without having merited it.

The dispute has drawn political attention. Il Fatto Quotidiano reported that former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte accused Rai executives of destroying a flagship product through what he called the "Meloni edict," and suggested this could constitute serious financial damage to the state.

Il Foglio added that Ranucci has expressed disdain for foreign correspondence, with commentator Antonio Caprarica noting that only in Italy is such work used to remove and compensate people.

The situation points to a broader conflict between Ranucci and the current management of Italy's public broadcaster. The question now is whether the mystery surrounding the Lavitola chat will be resolved through official channels or remain a point of contention in the ongoing dispute over Report's future direction.
