Heavy rain and hail brought traffic to a standstill across the southern and eastern parts of Mexico City on Friday, according to La Jornada. The downpour caused widespread chaos on the roads, with drivers facing significant delays and hazardous conditions.

The storm also triggered severe flooding in the southern borough of Tlalpan, where streets turned into fast-moving waterways, the outlet reported. The flooding was severe enough that local authorities issued a red alert for two boroughs, as noted by Quadratín México.

The storm's impact extended beyond the roads. In total, the rainfall affected 36 homes and knocked down 31 trees across the city, according to a report cited by Yahoo. The sheer volume of water was immense, with El Economista reporting that Mexico City received more than 35 million cubic meters of rain from the Friday precipitation.

The events mark another instance of heavy weather disrupting the capital, which has struggled with drainage and flood management during intense rainstorms. The red alert signaled that conditions posed a serious risk to residents and infrastructure in the affected areas.

Officials are expected to continue monitoring weather patterns and assessing the damage in the coming days. The focus will likely remain on clearing debris, restoring normal traffic flow, and checking on the households that were impacted by the flooding.
