A poster expressing support for Cristiano Ronaldo that had been put up in Porto was removed, Observador reports. The display went up the day before a match involving the national team, according to the outlet.
The removal in Porto is the latest development in a broader wave of outdoor displays backing the Portugal forward. According to O GLOBO, a Portuguese businessman spent 11,000 reais on billboards supporting Ronaldo after a conflict with Jorge Jesus. UOL reports that Lisbon woke to outdoor posters backing the player, and LANCE! describes the Lisbon displays as combining support for Ronaldo with criticism aimed at Jorge Jesus.
ESPN Brasil reports that the person behind the Ronaldo outdoor display directed at Jorge Jesus disclosed how much he paid and said he intends to stage further protests. The reporting does not specify who removed the Porto poster or why.
The displays follow a dispute between Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus that has drawn attention in Portugal and Brazil. The material reviewed does not detail the origins of that conflict or the current status of the relationship between the two.
What to watch next: whether additional outdoor displays appear and whether the businessman behind the campaign follows through on his stated plan for more protests.
