Poland's Government Security Centre (RCB) sent an emergency alert to the wrong province, Wiadomości Onet reported on Monday, 5 October 2026. The alert was meant for the eastern part of the country but reached recipients in a different region instead. The RCB has since apologised for the error, according to TVN24.

The alert was issued in connection with a Russian attack on Ukraine, when Poland scrambled fighter jets and the warning was intended for the Lublin region, Onet reported. Instead, the message went to the other end of Poland, Fakt reported.

The RCB described the alert as "mistakenly directed" to another province, TVN24 reported. The centre has not explained how the mix-up occurred.

The incident comes amid heightened alert in Poland's east during the war in Ukraine. Interia Wydarzenia reported that an alarm was raised in the east of the country and that the alert concerned the Russian attack.

The RCB has not said whether it will review its alert procedures following the mistake. It is unclear whether recipients in the intended region received any warning.

Watch for any statement from the RCB on what caused the error and whether the alert system will be changed.
