Poland's Interior Ministry (MSWiA) convened an emergency meeting on Thursday after a decision by President Karol Nawrocki, according to Onet. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński called the urgent session, stating it was prompted by the president's move, RMF24 reports.

At the center of the dispute is the nomination of Col. Jackowicz to head the State Protection Service (SOP), the government body responsible for protecting senior state officials. President Nawrocki has moved to block that appointment, according to Wyborcza.pl, which framed the standoff as a question of whether personal loyalty is being placed ahead of professional qualifications.

The government is reportedly weighing a workaround to the president's objection: creating a "rotational commander" position at the SOP, according to WP Wiadomości. Such an arrangement could allow the appointment to proceed without the president's direct approval.

The dispute has drawn commentary from former security officials. A former head of the BOR, the service that preceded the SOP, spoke critically about the clash between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Nawrocki, Wprost reports.

The conflict reflects a broader tension over control of Poland's security services, where presidential and government prerogatives overlap. The SOP's leadership has become the immediate flashpoint between the two offices.

Watch for whether the government formally announces the rotational commander structure, and whether the president responds with a further legal or procedural challenge to the appointment.
