The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) has set a goal of vaccinating 445,000 children in Eastern Visayas as part of a measles-rubella immunization drive, according to the Philippine News Agency.
The campaign targets children across the region, with the DOH coordinating local health units to reach the target population. The initiative is part of a broader national effort to curb the spread of measles and rubella, which can cause serious complications in unvaccinated children.
Philippine News Agency reports that similar vaccination drives are underway in other parts of the country. In the Cordillera region, a measles vaccination campaign is scheduled for August, as reported by Malaya Business Insight. Meanwhile, Pangasinan has already launched its own measles-rubella immunization program, vaccinating 220 children, according to the province's official website. In Bacolod, local officials are urging parents to vaccinate their children as measles cases rise, Panay News reported.

SunStar Publishing Inc. noted that the Cordillera region has been seeing lower measles cases, suggesting that vaccination efforts may be contributing to a decline in infections. The DOH's focus on Eastern Visayas comes as health authorities work to maintain and improve immunization coverage across the Philippines.
The success of the Eastern Visayas campaign will depend on reaching the 445,000 target, with health officials monitoring uptake rates in the coming weeks.
